You're probably familiar with the practice of using metal plates to store your wallet recovery seed to protect it from from harsh and unexpected conditions. The problem with metal plates is the absolute necessity to keep them hidden.

With ciphergoat, your recovery seed is safe even if it falls into the wrong hands, as it cannot be read without your passphrase. To recover your wallet, all you need is to scan the SeQR code and provide your passphrase. We recommend keeping a couple of these SeQR codes in a safe place and engraving the code on a metal plate makes perfect sense for long term safe keeping.

But How? how?

There are many shops and companies providing services for metal marking, etching or engraving. Although the SeQR code cannot be broken as long as your passphrase is complex enough, it's considered good practice to not expose it. Nonetheless, if you know and trust the owner or have a friend with the proper equipment, you can do it on your own.
